What a great event and great turnout across the state for the wild/STRONG #WOD4Maya. 14 CrossFit gyms in Wyoming hosted the charity workout – and Evolution Athletics in North Carolina joined in the fun, as well as individual athletes in California and Colorado.
We were able to raise more than a thousand dollars for the Tobin family through t-shirt sales and our #Reps4Maya donations from The CrossFit Games Open 16.5 workout. That money, added to direct donations to the GoFundMe page totaled more than two thousand dollars, with more on its way from gyms that took cash donations during the event.
When we started planning this event – we had no real financial goal in mind. I just knew that the Wyoming CrossFit community was strong and I wanted to get them together to do something great. I was humbled by the amount of participation we received and by the amount of money that came in from across the country. T-shirt orders from California to Minnesota to Alabama poured in. I ordered extras thinking maybe we would sell a few at the event – and even those were bought up days before. Every ten, 15, 20 dollar donation I saw pop up on the GoFundMe brought a smile to my face.
The workout itself was brutal – or as brutal as you made it. Ending a 20 minute workout doing max-effort muscle-ups is never easy! We had a great crowd at CrossFit Frontier and saw some impressive scores!
Maya is recovering well from her surgery – and every dollar we raised is going to help her family put this in their rear-view mirror. You all were part of something really good this past weekend – and you proved what we already knew – The Wyoming CrossFit community is a great group, capable of great things.
With a few precincts left to report, a big thank you goes out to CrossFit Frontier, Flaming Gorge CrossFit, Worland CrossFit and CrossFit Cheyenne. Whether it was t-shirt sales, direct donations or both, these gyms and athletes ponied up the largest amounts of cash for our event.
Thank you – to everyone who participated in the workout, shared the post on Facebook and donated your hard-earned money. You are all awesome people.
