Report from Battle of the Boxes

I can’t walk up a flight a stairs, sleep is difficult because of the pain – and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Battle of the Boxes at CrossFit MOB in Denver, delivered.

Going into the competition, just looking at the workouts, I figured it would be forearms and grip that went first, and while WOD 1 certainly taxed both – by the end of the day, the event had spared nobody’s legs. My partner and I squatted more than 16,000 combined pounds in the two-minute back squat floater…Jake Ritthaler put on an impressive show, squatting 185lbs…56 times in 2:00. If you do the math you will see he got more than 10,000 of those 16,000+ pounds – but as I told him, WE squatted 16k, at the end of the day who really remembers who got what, right? We both averaged 8k :) The score was good for 5th overall in that event.

The wild/STRONG women, Samantha and Josie, also put on a solid showing on the squat floater – with Josie squatting 85lbs for an impressive 60 reps!

The burpee box-jump, thruster, OH lunge event was also a strong one for the men of wild/STRONG, with Jake knocking out all 20 lunges UB in set one. Our 7:04 finish was good for top 15. By the final WOD my legs were absolutely trashed and I was not looking forward to having to do 40 pistols, but I surprised myself and was able to knock them out in two sets, 15-25.

Before we started exercising for time, we had a chance to meet up for an awesome dinner at Range in Downtown Denver. See, we don't always wear workout clothes!

All in all it was a great day. We got to work out with 4 other teams from our gym, CrossFit Frontier, and one of the teammates was an old friend that I used to train with at CrossFit Cheyenne – it was awesome to get to catch up with him, and hang out with good friends doing what we all love to do – exercise for time.

Also very cool was running into new friends who we met on the wild/STRONG Open Tour. A big group from Lowry CrossFit was in attendance, where the tribe performed 16.4, and a coach and athlete from CrossFit Endure, where the tour stopped for 16.2 were competing alongside us. We actually were chasing Endure’s team all day – finishing with exactly the same amount of points, 310 – but they clipped us on a tiebreaker. Congrats to Coach Matt Fabrizio and his squad – it was awesome going head-to-head with you guys.

We will be downloading a ton of pictures from the event and uploading them to all our channels in the coming days. Thanks to CrossFit MOB, all the volunteers and staff and all the athletes who came out for this great event – and a shoutout to the men and women of CrossFit Omnia. Impressive showing, taking the top men’s spot and top women’s spot, along with Best Box. The women’s team won every single event except for one – a dominant showing.
