Well, that was about the sneakiest workout ever.
The wild/STRONG Open Tour headed south to Colorado for the CrossFit Open workout 16.2. After hitting up CrossFit Evolve in Fort Collins, CO. last week, this week's destination was CrossFit Endure in Windsor, CO.
But this go-round we were not alone. A strong contingent of the wild/STRONG Tribe joined my girlfriend and me to tackle the toes-to-bar, double-unders and cleans. We also tried something new this time, Live Facebook streaming our heats so you could watch at home.
CrossFit Endure is a great space and their athletes did an 80's theme night for Friday - which all I can tell you, resulted in a lot of neon colors and some borderline offensive "gym coach" shorts from Coach Matt Fabrizio (the full squat-clean demo was NSFW! haha)
My girlfriend joined wild/STRONG Tribers C.J. Engels and Tyler Green from "The Crew", an Unaffiliated team based in Northern Colorado, for heat 1. All three of them did really well, with C.J. making it through her toes-to-bar in round 4, Tyler making it into round 3 and Josie coming up just two reps shy of making it into the third round.
Heat 3 was Waggener vs. Waggener with my older brother and I going head to head. Double-unders have long been one of my weakest movements, so I shot through the toes-to-bar quickly in round one, only to have one of my best double-under days in my life, hitting an UB set of 50. Both of our toes-to-bar betrayed us in the second round, and we both hit a few cleans at 185, with me finishing just 3 reps ahead of my brother. A win is a win (actually for those of you keeping score at home this Open, two wins is two wins.)
I wasn't happy with my failure to get into round 3 and be able to rack up all those additional reps, but now that I have had some time to reflect, I am thrilled that for the first time, I did an Open workout and it wasn't the double-unders that got me.
16.3 is officially on the clock! We are happy to announce that next Friday, we will be travelling to CrossFit Battle Ready in Greeley, CO. for 16.3. Battle Ready welcomed us with open arms when we inquired about dropping-in. This gym is home to former CrossFit 307 (Casper, WY) stud Chase Popp, who always puts up some gaudy numbers on Open workouts!
See you in Greeley and good luck the rest of the way in the Open.
