A familiar face to anyone in the Wyoming and Colorado CrossFit community has joined Team wild/STRONG. Shelby Walkinshaw is a true “OG” when it comes to functional fitness in the region. Starting her CrossFit journey in 2009 – Walkinshaw helped open Mountain Fit/Ascent CrossFit (Now Your Box CrossFit) in 2010.
Since that time she qualified for The CrossFit Games Regionals in 2011 and 2012. She is a former gym owner whose list of accomplishments and certifications in CrossFit are extensive:

Wild/STRONG’s introduction course to macronutrients has grown since its launch and the need to bring on an additional coach was necessary.
“The response to our intro course has been overwhelming. There are so many athletes out there looking for information, but who maybe aren’t ready to commit to one of the higher-priced plans out there. We try to get them started, show them how easy it is – and then if they want to continue on their own or with someone else, they can,” said wild/STRONG Founder Seth Waggener. “When we started looking for a new coach, Shelby was an obvious choice. She already has her own client base, a high level of knowledge on the topic, and obviously her name recognition in our community was a huge plus.”
“I have coached and trained people from all walks of life for years. Helping people achieve their goals and motivating them is what wild/STRONG is all about – THAT is a team I’m proud to be a part of," said Walkinshaw. "I first heard of wild/STRONG at the Wyoming Affiliate Cup competition in Cheyenne earlier this year. All the badass athletes were wearing their gear."
Walkinshaw was introduced to flexible nutrition and dieting by 2014 National Champion Weightlifter and 3-time CrossFit Games Regional athlete Cassidy Duffield. She says the less restrictive style of nutrition is what made her stick with it, and is why she believes it is the best way to achieve your goals.
“I have never looked back because once you get the hang of it, it truly is easy. Prior to following this program, I tried Paleo for years and some Zone – but those felt restrictive. I’d find myself not really eating when I needed to because the food wasn’t readily available or I hadn’t prepped properly,” said Walkinshaw. “Prepping is always a key, but with flexible nutrition, it’s not the end of the world if you don’t prep. You just need to be aware of what you are putting in your body and when.”
